Australia’s number one Craft & Quilt Fair is back to brighten and bedazzle Canberra’s craft and quilting community with breathtakingly vibrant displays, a range of well-known and accomplished artisans, a huge program of inspirational workshops and expert instructed hands-on classes, colourful fabric creations by Sharyn Hall, the fantastic new Felting Studio and more than 90 exhibitors.

Event highlights

• Artist in Residence, Sharyn Hall will demonstrate fantastic ways to add colour and pattern to fabric. Visitors can see Sharyn at work as she manipulates colours and embellishes the textile surface to create her amazing artworks.

• 2010 Canberra Quilters’ Exibition – From a membership of over 400, Canberra Quilters expect around 200 entries in the guild exhibition, and this year’s Challenge theme is ‘Going Green’. Also featured will be the 2011 Calendar Quilts with the intriguing theme, ‘Cutting Corners’. This exhibition will be opened officially by Helen Redmond, Senior Editor of Vogue Living at 11am on Thursday August 5.

• Best of Australia Quilts is a special exhibition touring with the Craft & Quilt Fairs. The eight quilts in the Best of Australia exhibit have all won the Best of Show for their home state.

• ACT Textile Arts Association will be exhibiting pieces which will be included in the Association’s Annual Exhibition ‘A Garden Tea Party’. They’re almost good enough to eat!

• Texstyle Display – A selection of the best textile works from 2009 HSC students will be on display. These works are experimental and diverse, making for an interesting display, alongside the portfolios which show the progression of design. There will also be teachers on hand to discuss the works, and seminars available for both students and teachers. There will be two Year 11 seminars and one Teacher Seminar.

• Ideas Station – Ideas station is a fantastic new product demonstration area where exhibitors will demonstrate the benefits and features of cutting-edge products.

• Buy unique craft supplies – Visitors will be able to choose from thousands of new and exciting products catering for all their craft needs from retailers all over Australia.

Interactive workshops

• Felt Studio - Felt artisan Wendy Bailye will conduct an interactive studio workshop to explain the finer arts of felting and teach participants how to use felt to create amazing apparel.

• Craft Circle- A range of craft activities for enthusiasts to develop their skills and get expert advice.
